Christian Bale is known for his incredible body transformations for many movie roles, and his dedication to his craft is truly impressive. With an amazing career spanning over 30 years, from losing weight drastically for “The Machinist” to bulking up for “American Psycho” and “Vice,” Bale’s commitment to his roles is evident in his physical transformations.

However, Bale recently revealed that his skills for transforming his body may soon be ending. “I’ve become a little more boring now because I’m older, and If I keep doing that, I’m going to die. So, I’d prefer not to die,” Bale told E! News.

1. Ford V Ferrari


In the film “Ford V Ferrari,” Bale plays the role of race car driver Ken Miles and once again shocked audiences with his weight loss for the role. But as he told Variety, “I had to get in the car,” he ended up losing even more weight. Bale lost about 70 pounds to accurately portray the lean and wiry physique of a professional race car driver from the 1960s.

Matt Damon, Bale’s co-star, was shocked by the actor’s weight loss, but when Damon asked Bale about how he did it, he gave him a direct answer: “He just looked at me and said, ‘I didn’t eat.”

2. The Machinist


Christian Bale’s dramatic weight loss for his role in “The Machinist” is well-known in Hollywood. Bale lost 63 pounds in the role of the skinny character in the film. His extreme dedication to his craft and willingness to undergo such a transformation for a role has been both praised and criticized. The actor reportedly stuck to a diet of “water, an apple, and one cup of coffee per day.” According to reports, Bale wanted to push it further and reach 100 pounds, but they wouldn’t allow him due to health issues.

3. American Psycho


Christian Bale’s dramatic weight loss for his role in the movie “American Psycho” is a well-known example of an actor going to extreme lengths for a role. Bale reportedly lost over 60 pounds to portray the character of Patrick Bateman, a narcissistic and psychopathic Wall Street banker. Bale told Train Mag that “there were no cheat meals. It was all lean protein. No sugars, good fats, and low carbs.”

4. The Fighter


In the 2010 movie “The Fighter,” Christian Bale underwent a physical transformation; he lost 30 pounds to portray the role of Dicky Eklund, a real-life former boxer and drug addict. Bale said for his weight loss, “I was just running like crazy. I could just run for hours on end, and I felt healthy.”

Bale won many awards for his role in The Fighter, including the SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, the Academy Award, and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor.

5. Vice


Christian Bale gained 45 pounds for his role as Dick Cheney, a former President of the United States, in the movie “Vice.” The process involved consuming a high-calorie diet that consisted of junk food and soda to achieve the desired weight gain and even training to bulk up his neck, shave his head, and bleach his eyebrows, so it matched his role in the movie.

Many awards have been given to Vice, including the Academy Award for Best Make-Up and Hairstyling and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, which Bale properly won.

6. American Hustle


Christian Bale’s weight in the movie “American Hustle” was a topic of much discussion and fascination. He gained around 43 pounds to portray the character of Irving Rosenfeld, a con artist with a striking sense of style. Bale’s weight gain was achieved through a combination of a high-calorie diet and avoiding exercise.

Bale told the People, that he “ate lots of doughnuts, a whole lot of cheeseburgers, and whatever I could get my hands on. I ate anything that came my way. I was 185 and came up to 228.” He also shaved his head.
