People Are Recreating Famous Paintings With Objects Found at Home During Self-Quarantine

Published

Despite all cultural institutions closing their doors due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles has found a way to keep people engaged with their art. They’ve challenged people to “recreate a work of art by using household items (and people)” from the comfort of their homes. The museum got the idea from Tussen Kunst & Quarantaine, a Dutch Instagram whose name means “between art and quarantine.”

After The Getty Museum started this challenge, people began replying to the Getty with personalized remakes of pieces by the likes of Johannes Vermeer, Pablo Picasso, Leonardo da Vinci, and many more. Users used rolls of toilet paper, coffee filters, children’s toys, and even their pets getting involved in the recreation process and receiving some hilarious results – check out some of the funniest paintings recreated in the gallery below!
